Application procedure Summer Interns

  1. Check eligibility criteria.
  2. Check available projects for a summer internship. (The call for 2024 is now CLOSED)
  3. Fill in the application form and upload supporting documents/video.
  4. The VDSP office will forward your application to the researchers you selected as potential hosts of your internship.
  5. In case you are shortlisted for an interview you will be directly contacted by the potential host. 
  6. The competitive selection and matching with places will be monitored by a committee of the VDSP.
  7. The VDSP office will inform you about the outcome of the application process shortly after the VDSP Selection Committee has reached a decision. Successful applicants will receive further information about the specifics of the summer internship directly by their host.
  8. Additionally, for incoming students only:
    • Please note that we can only sign traineeship agreements issued by the University of Vienna. Sample agreements can be found on this website. They have for instance served well in the Erasmus exchange programme by the EU.

Eligibilty criteria

  1. The call for summer internships is open to Bachelor or Master students in Physics or related disciplines at an internationally recognized higher education institution.
  2. Before starting the internship you must have completed at least the 2nd Bachelor year. Your placement in the group of your choice will be adapted to your qualifications.
  3. A VDSP Faculty Member must declare their willingness to host the applicant as an intern. Applications for the internship will automatically be forwarded by the VDSP office to potential host for consideration. 
  4. Exact dates and length of the internship are decided together with the host if a match is found.
  5. You will be expected to
    • See yourself as part of a team and contribute to the project of your hosting research group
    • Use the time to best advance your scientific and technical skills
