Workshop "Understanding Negotiation" by Robert Marshall

This session is designed to be of interest to early career scientists and researchers, whether they are considering employment in an academic, commercial or public-sector setting. No previous formal training in negotiation is assumed.

By the end of this workshop session attendees will:

  • Understand the importance of negotiation and the value of developing our negotiation skills
  • Have examined, discussed and understood a range of different approaches to negotiation – and the benefits and problems associated with each
  • Know the key principles of persuasion
  • Have practiced these skills in a ‘real world’ negotiation scenario
  • Be more confident and self-assured in their future negotiations.
