Title of the project: A heralded source of size-controlled silicon and gold nanoparticles for optomechanics
Name of the VDSP student(s) & image credits: Stephan Troyer & Philipp Rieser
Project supervised by: Markus Arndt
About me/us: We are PhD students in our 5th year and enjoy exploring the fun side of our experiments.
Image: The creation of individual, size-controlled nanoparticles will unlock new research opportunities in Levitated Optomechanics. To achieve this, we built a setup for laser-induced meltout: strongly focused ultrashort laser pulses allow us to create nanoparticles with submicrometer precision. In an evening session, we combined this ability with a game controller, allowing us to paint this picture.
