Time Lensing
Time Lensing
Title of the project: quantum dots for quantum-secured communication
Name of the VDSP student(s) & image credits: Lennart Jehle
Project supervised by: Philip Walther
About me/us: After completing both the Bachelor and Master in Physics at the technical university in Berlin, I joined the Quantum Information group of Philip Walther to explore how quantum dots can boost the security of our communication.
Image: The images provides an artistic interpretation of a so-called time lens which is the temporal counterpart of a "normal", spatial lens. Instead of focussing a laser pulse to a tight spot, a time lens compresses the temporal profile, i.e. it "focusses in time". This experiemntal technique gained popularity in quantum optics and infromation processing where it enhances the interference visibility of sources featuring wastly different optical bandwidth. In this way, it opens up a way to efficiently interface dissimilar hardware in a future quantum internet.
The image was generated with the help of the AI Dall-E 3 implemented by Bing and provided by OpenAI. Their policy for use states: "Subject to the Content Policy and Terms, you own the images you create with DALL·E, including the right to reprint, sell, and merchandise – regardless of whether an image was generated through a free or paid credit."
