Xenon nanoclusters between two graphene layers
Xenon nanoclusters between two graphene layers
Title of the project: Two-dimensional few-atom noble gas clusters in a graphene sandwich
Name of the VDSP student(s) & image credits: Manuel Längle
Project supervised by: Jani Kotakoski
About me/us: I am a PhD student in Jani Kotakoskis group working on two-dimensional materials using scanning transmission electron microscopy and low energy ion irradiation.
Image: When two layers of graphene are irradiated with noble gases they can be trapped between the sheets if the ions are fast enough to pass through the first but not the second layer. This leads to regular densely packed twodimensional noble gas nanocrystals, such as those shown in the images.
