Vortrag im Rahmen des University of Vienna Physics Colloquiums

Strong correlations enrich the landscape of quantum phases, which is being realized in an increasing number of materials families – from the cuprate high-temperature superconductors and heavy fermion compounds to new platforms for strong correlation physics such as frustrated lattices and moiré heterostructures [1]. I will show why heavy fermion compounds are a particularly versatile platform for systematic studies [2]. After an overview, I will highlight recent results that shed new light on a key overarching phenomenon: the "strange metal" state. These include shot noise experiments [3] and first information on entanglement properties [4]. I will also make connection to the field of strongly correlated topological semimetals [5], and discuss the role that strange metal quantum criticality appears to plays there [6].
