Aerosols are solid or liquid particles suspended in air, with sizes from nano- to micrometers. Those particles have an impact on human health and environment. Atmospheric aerosols influence also the planetary radiative transfer and consequently the climate of the Earth. They are the most difficult constituent of atmospheric pollutants to be measured.

Aerosol particles in the atmosphere are difficult to measure and require very specialized and expensive instrumentation. This limits the global distribution of measurement networks. In order to overcome this problem one of my main research interests over the past years has been to develop more cost-efficient instrumentation. This subsequently led to the idea of founding a commercial company.
