VDSP Science Day 2025 Recap

VDSP Science Day 2025 Recap
This year’s VDSP Science Day took place on the 16th October at the Sky Lounge. Experimenting outside the lab to spread the message of science was indeed possible as the event was gleaming with PhD students and professors from the faculty of Physics.
The event began with opening words from Dr ChristianeM Losert-Valiente Kroon, followed by a talk from Matthias Werl from TU Wien on 19th century heroes of Vienna. Our students Zhenghao Yin, Wael Joudi, Lisa Sappl, Rostyslav Serha and Sinan Moura Soysüren (in order of appearance), who were nominated by their respective supervisors, presented their research, followed by a discussion.
Not to forget the crossword competition with a sip of coffee and a bite of croissant. The participants were grouped as teams for an ice breaker crossword game – team blue whale won!
Special mention to the participants of the creative poster session: the participants presented great interactive posters that highlighted science and research in a remarkable manner. Thanks to Prof. Dr. Roberto Cerbino for his useful tips.
Also, our former student representatives Nikolaos Kalafatakis and Victor Camarena Chavez were cordially thanked for their service and our new ones, Stephanie Adler and Umair Javed, were welcomed by the VDSP family.
The closing remarks were given by Prof. Dr. Markus Arndt. We thank him for his encouragement and support. Post lunch we set on our expedition to an art exhibition on the realm of quanta at Belvedere 21. Thanks to Clara Richter for an insightful tour of the art exhibition. We also thank Pedro del Real Lavergne for capturing the memorable moments at the Science Day!
We thank all the participants for their unwavering support in making this event a huge success. Looking forward to many more years of community building and research discussions in a scientific environment.
Cheers on behalf of the Team,
Nandhini Ravindran (Organizer)
