Official kick-off for the Vienna Doctoral Schools and academies

On Friday the 14th of October the official Kick-off for the the Vienna Doctoral Schools and Vienna Doctoral Academies took place.

In October 2016, three new Vienna Doctoral Academies and four Vienna Doctoral Schools with a total of 250 Fellows have been launched at the University of Vienna.
At the official opening, David Bogle (University College London) gave a lecture on the doctoral education of the future. He spoke about "Maintaining a Quality Culture in Doctoral Education". 

With the establishment of the VDA / VDS, the University of Vienna is taking a further step towards supporting doctoral students and their integration into the scientific community.
"Research without doctoral students is unthinkable at universities, so the doctoral programs and measures for the promotion of young academics are at the top of the list of priorities for research-intensive universities," said Vizerektor Heinz Faßmann, VDA / VDS , October 14, 2016 at 5 pm in the Senate Hall of the University of Vienna.

Later in the evening a panel discussion took place in which Vice-Rector Heinz Faßmann, David Bogle, Markus Arndt (Director of VDS Physics), Peter Becker (Director of the VDA Theory and Methodology in the Humanities), Kristina Djinovic Carugo (Director of the VDS Molecules of Life) and Lucas Zinner (Director of DLE Research service and promotion of young researchers) discussed the doctoral programs and the future of Doctoral Schools at the University of Vienna.
